OthersWe also finance various other surgeries after helping the patients avail financing from all sources. We also are able to get concessional rates from the hospitals and nursing homes due to our long-standing relationship with them. We have funded around 110 eye surgeries (mostly cataract) till September 2006. A typical surgery costs around Rs 4,000/- to Rs 6,000/-, but Dr. Moinuddin of FM Eye clinic does these surgeries at a substantially reduced rate for patients referred by PRAY. Meeting the immediate requirements after accidents has been one of our critical activities. In case of accidents, we expedite funds disbursal due to the urgent fund requirements. Till September 2006, we have provided immediate relief for 191 accidents, spending around Rs 5.9 lakhs cumulatively on it. We also have run medical camps in the past, but currently have suspended this activity due to lack of funds. This is a critical requirement especially to combat infectious killer diseases and epidemics. In a camp in Devarajeevanahalli, we administered the Hepatitis B vaccine to 1000 children at the cost of Rs 650/- per recipient (Rs 216 per dose and three doses in all). The cost of basic investigations has also skyrocketed in recent years. An MRI scan costs upwards of Rs 14,000/- in some of the top hospitals, but around Rs 3,500/- at NIMHANS. CT scans cost in the same range and ultra sound scans costing around Rs 250/- (including a concession for PRAY patients) are also needed by most patients. PRAY also helps fund these investigations as most of the needy patients cannot afford such high costs of health care. We have also given money for various requirements such as burns cases, maternity deliveries, and hearing aids for children who are deaf and dumb (through Shreyas clinic) and arranged/paid for blood transfusions |
